What HearO is

HearO is a mobile app for veterans living with combat-related PTSD. It delivers gradual, consent-based sound exposure. An ambient soundscape layered with sounds you've chosen to encounter, guided by a calm voice and watched over by your Apple Watch pulse. When your body starts to spike, the app responds: the voice softens, breathing slows, intensity drops. No popups. No alarms. The app does the work you shouldn't have to.

Why we built it

Combat triggers don't keep a schedule. A motorcycle backfire on the way to the supermarket, a helicopter overhead at a kid's birthday, fireworks on a Saturday night. Clinical Prolonged Exposure therapy is the most evidence-supported treatment for PTSD, and one of the hardest to access and stay in. HearO sits between imaginal and in-vivo exposure: concrete enough to engage the autonomic response that drives habituation, light enough to deliver through a phone.

The goal isn't to make sounds stop bothering you. The goal is to widen the window in which a trigger is a sound, not a flashback trigger, and to keep you demonstrably in control the whole time.

What HearO is not

  • Not a replacement for clinical therapy. If you're working with a clinician, HearO complements that work; it doesn't replace it.
  • Not a regulated medical device. No FDA, CE, or AMAR clearance. Not diagnostic.
  • Not for acute crisis. Every screen carries a one-tap line to ERAN 1201, Israel's free, 24/7, anonymous emotional first-aid line. Crisis taps are never logged.
  • Not surveillance. Your pulse stays on your device. Your sessions belong to you.

Who we are

Four childhood friends who've known each other for fifteen years. We grew up together, and like so many in Israel the last two years brought reality close to us, and to the people we love, through post-trauma and anxiety. We decided to stop talking about it and combine what each of us has built professionally to take our angle and try to help.

HearO is built as part of techHeal, a small project combining business experience, product, and engineering to ship something useful, not just talk.
